Durham City members have once again been successful at the Sport and Physical Activity Awards for County Durham, where their achievements and dedication have been recognised.
A huge congratulations to Stephen and Maggie Ward who have been jointly awarded the Contribution to Sport Award in the Durham and Chester le Street area. This is testament to their long service to the Club and countless number of hours given up to coach and teach and follows on from their Club Honorary Lifetime Membership Awards presented earlier this year.
Further congratulations to Katherine Hill (Senior Performance Squad) who was the winner of the Young Coach of the Year in the Easington & Sedgefield area. Nominated by her School, Katherine will be a familiar face to most within the Club, as a Swimming Captain and poolside coach, commiting to these voluntary roles at the same time as training herself.
Stephen, Maggie and Katherine now go forward to the County Awards Dinner on 9 October at Ramside Hall Hotel and will be up against the other area winners. Good luck to them on behalf of the entire Club!
A special mention must also go to Daniel Morley (Senior Performance) who was shortlisted for Young Sporting Achievement of the Year following his National level success last season.
Hope you have enjoyed the break and please see the below Club Information circular:
1. Training re-commences from Monday 10th August 2015, as am sure most of you are aware. Given that the Squad Moves have taken place and New Timetable will be in effect, I have attached a copy of said Timetable for reference (should it be required).
2. Coach Announcement - I am pleased to announce that the Coaches for the Development Squads shall be in place from the 10th August 2015:
* Gold Squad - Maggie Ward
* Silver Squad - Mike Perry
* Bronze Squad - Sam Jepson (for those unaware, Sam coached with the Club up until last year, and has now returned to England from a position overseas)
3. Those whom have registered an interest in the Moor House Activity Weekend shall receive further information in the coming week.
Wishing all swimmers and players the best for the forthcoming months, and we will endeavour to ensure all members are kept informed and updated on all Club matters.
The Club is currently advertising for two paid positions - a Development Coach and a Lead Water Polo Coach. Please click on the link below to access full details.
Sunday 21 June 2015 was a very busy day for the Club, hosting its Summer Gala in the morning, where 10 Club records were broken, and then its Summer Splash Bash in the evening at Ramside Hall.
A huge well done to all the swimmers and water polo players who picked up awards in the evening, especially our National Qualifiers for this season, Daniel Morley, Oliver Smith and Emily Power. There were also special awards for our water polo volunteers, including Kathryn Salmon, and for our Junior League team who compete in the Division 2 Final next weekend. Our Swimmer of the Year trophy for this season was picked up by Oliver Smith.
The final set of awards went to recognise four coaches who have volunteered with the Club for a immense number of years. Maggie Ward, Stephen Ward, Pat Palmer and Margaret Shotten were all awarded with an Honorary Lifetime Membership of the Club, which is the highest honour the Club can bestow, as a thank you for their dedication and years of hard work. We were delighted that Lyndon Longhorne, previously the only Honorary Lifetime Member, was able to attend to present these very special awards.
Well done to everyone involved, and thank you to those involved in the organisation and running of the day itself.
